Attendee Code of Conduct

This document was last updated on the 5th January.

About the Code

This Code of Conduct ensures that all event attendees contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming environment.

Our Mission

CyberWomen Groups C.I.C. aims to create an inclusive community that empowers underrepresented groups in STEM, fostering collaboration and respect in all activities. Attendees are an essential part of this mission, and your conduct matters.

Expected Behaviour

By attending any CyberWomen Groups C.I.C. event, or any associated branch events, collaborations or occasions, you agree to follow this Code of Conduct.

This code of conduct is applied to all events, whether they be in person, hybrid or online.

As a student-based community, we empower our students to be leaders, so it is likely you may attend an event that is run entirely by students. We ask you do not attend any CyberWomen Groups C.I.C. events, collaborations or opportunities if this is not something you are willing to respect in its entirety.

Respect and Inclusivity:

  • Treat all individuals with respect, dignity, and kindness, regardless of their background, identity, or opinions.
  • Refrain from any form of harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate behaviour.

Safety and Accessibility:

  • Help create a safe environment by being mindful of your actions and their impact on others.
  • Support efforts to make the event accessible for everyone. If you need accommodations, please inform event organisers beforehand.

Participation and Collaboration:

  • Engage constructively in activities, discussions, and networking opportunities.
  • Respect the privacy and contributions of others during workshops, talks, and collaborative sessions.

Responsible Use of Technology:

  • Use technology ethically and responsibly during the event.
  • Do not misuse event resources, capture unauthorised recordings, or share confidential materials without permission.

Respect of Privacy and Security

  • Understand and respect that there may be some information that individuals may choose not to share, or may share in confidence.
  • At CyberWomen Groups C.I.C., we are dedicated to ensuring your data is handled fairly, lawfully and with transparency. As attendees, we expect you to uphold these same values.
  • We will always seek approval for photography or the sharing of any information. If you photograph another attendee or are trusted with information from another attendee, please seek permission to share.

Unacceptable Behaviour

The following behaviours will not be tolerated:

  • Harassment, bullying, discriminatory remarks relating to someone's identity, experience or professionalism.
  • Any sexual comments, innuendos, advances or remarks.
  • Disruptive, aggressive or inappropriate behaviour during sessions or interactions.
  • Sharing offensive or inappropriate content, including on social media.

This list is not exhaustive and is at the discretion of the CyberWomen Groups C.I.C. team to determine if behaviour is unacceptable.

As aforementioned, it is likely events you attend will be entirely student-led. Any form if disrespect to a student that concerns:

  • Their age,
  • Their level of professionalism or ability,
  • Their identity or aspirations,
  • Their professional experience.

Will be treated in the same manner as any other inappropriate behaviour. We like to reiterate that students do belong in professional settings, and expect our attendees to encourage the same narrative.

Raising Concerns

If you witness or experience behaviour that violates this Code, please report it to a member of the CyberWomen Groups C.I.C. team. If for any reason there is not a member present, please report it to a branch President, or via our email address.

All reports will be treated confidentially and addressed promptly.

Consequences of Misconduct

CyberWomen Groups C.I.C. reserves the right to take appropriate action in response to any violations, which may include:

  • Verbal warnings.
  • Removal from the event.
  • Ban from future events and interactions.

These actions can be given by any member of the CyberWomen Groups C.I.C. team at any time.
